DUI-Quick To-Do List

Here is a quick list of things you should do as soon as possible after you have been arrested for DUI in Maryland:

1.    Get a Lawyer as Soon as Possible:  You license has been taken from you and you face very serious potential consequences.

You must request an MVA hear within a short time frame of being arrested in order to challenge the suspension of your license.  You also need to have all the facts fresh in your mind so that your lawyer has a good understanding of the case against you and of the best case for getting you a favorable outcome.

2.    Do Not Answer Questions Without Your Lawyer: Remember that you are innocent until proven guilty.  As the investigation goes on and the case against you is being put together, you need an attorney to help you know how to navigate communications with the police and with the prosecutor.

3.    Enroll in an Alcohol Education Course: Your lawyer likely can help you find one of these courses, and if you take it before going to court, it can only help you in the eyes of the judge who has great power over deciding your future.

4.    Do Not Panic: Work with your lawyer to prepare for court and be as honest and upright with him or her as you can be.  Your lawyer needs to understand your situation so they can get you the best possible outcome.
